  But in an opinion written by Judge Robert Schumacher and decided with judges Bruce Willis and Wilhelmina Wright, the court ruled that the organization didn't have control or custody of the girls when the alleged abuse happened. Incidents were alleged to have taken place on a snowmobile, in an automobile and at the alleged perpetrator's house, not at a Jehovah's Witnesses function or on the organization's property, the panel reasoned.

  Can somebody throw our judges a freaking CLUE?????? Nobody said the cong had custody of the victims! The problem is when they were informed of the abuse, they failed to report it to the proper authorities!!! They pressured the victims to remain silent!!!

  Automatic DA?ing of anyone taking a blood transfusion, now in the U.S!

  i recently talked to a jw ?elder?

  friend of mine, who said that they just received a letter (us) from the society, stating that they should ?da?

  anyone who takes a blood transfusion.

  I agree with elsewhere, this sounds like a lawsuit for slander just waiting to happen.

  What if I just plain don't know which particular component or procedure is on the disapproved list this week, and I pick the wrong one???? I'll get DA'd for that? Evidently I will, since there is no real investigation done, where I could explain to the loving elders how I never wanted to break Jehover's unchangeable laws in the first place...

  Somehow this loophole they seem to think they have discovered needs to be closed down. Its all semantics, and somehow this needs to be conveyed to whatever judicial system they are trying to scam.

  Bottom line is, if word gets out that you have accepted a blood transfusion, you will be shunned by JW friends and family. Whether its DA or DF is irrelevant, coercion is being used to override your conscience/free will.

  This happened this last weekend at the circuit assembly my (JW) wife attended. During the program, a small child got loose and started running across the aisle at the front of the auditorium. A few chuckles were heard, of course. Soon, grandma appears on the scene, attempting to corral the unruly child. As she is chasing after the kid, running a little herself, all of a sudden grandma trips and takes a nasty fall.

  Here is the interesting part, even my wife thought it odd: No one got up, no one went to help her up, see if she was ok, etc. Nada. zip.

  Of course, we all know why this occurred. Borgs are trained to pay attention to the program, to ignore any kind of disturbance or distractions. Look what happened when Lloyd Barry collapsed on stage, somebody stepped up and finished his talk, nobody missed a beat.

  mine is from friday, the movie with ice cube, where a couple of jw ladies wake up ice cube's character's family one morning and there's some mouthing off, and you wouldn't believe the nasty words coming out of these sweet looking old "sisters".

  Reno911 on Comedy Central had an awesome bit a while back. Two cops in a patrol car see these two guys with ties and bookbags walking down the street. They jump out of the squad car, guns drawn, start screaming at the two to drop their bags, hit the ground. They tell them that they are looking for a couple of robbers matching their description. By this time the two guys are laying on the ground, almost peeing their pants, insisting they are innocent. The cops look through their bags, see the literature, then apologize and let them go.

  The cops get back in the car, one laughs and says, "I just like giving them a hard time!" Too Funny!!!!!

  Faithful & Discreet Slave - NEW LIGHT

  ok........has anybody been hearing rumors about new light on the faithful and discreet slave teaching?

  i recently talked to one of my ex-bethel buddies and he said that an adjustment has been in the works for awhile now and that the new light for the fds will be that they will receive their appointment before the great tribulation and that they didn't receive it at 1918-19 as previously taught.

  their works (global preaching work, worldwide growth, etc) up until the point of the great tribulation will show that they have been faithful and discreet in caring for the lord's interests and worthy of "official" appointment before the end comes.

  Just to clarify things a bit...

  I thought the teaching was that there was always a F&DS, i.e. down through the centuries, there were always at least a few faithful ones on the earth. It was just that it was not until 1918, or 1919, that there was an inspection, and additional responsibilites were given to the F&DS slave.

  So really, all that is changing is that they are saying that this inspection is a future event, which is how it is described in Matthew anyway.

  Anyway, as the generation change has proved, they can spin any yarn they want and 99% of todays dubs will swallow it without question. They have had it beat into their heads since 1980 that the Org is not to be questioned, therefore most of the ones left in the Org do not question.

  It would be censorship because they would be inconsistent on their stance of making all ideas available (if that is their stance).

  Amazon does not have a stance or charter that involves making all ideas available. Amazon is a business, comprende? Their charter or mission, is to make money, no more, no less.

  In this case they have made the conscious decision to distribute - and profit from - a publication that advocates and attempts to justify behavior that is morally reprehensible to 99.9999% of the general public, and is generally illegal in most parts of the world. Many people here( and elsewhere, I am sure) are outraged by this decision. When corporations make decisions like this, they often-times will have to face consequences like this: angry customers, boycotts, negative pr, etc. This is why most companies claim to have ethics or standards that they attempt to abide by. It is not a perfect system, but it is better than nothing.

  Why do you have a problem with this? And don't start with the noble "ideas want to be free" or "slippery slope" type arguments. There is no government-mandated censorship issue here, this is no lofty "diversity of opinions" battle. Its a big company making a bone-head business decision.

  Paradise lost - found!

  hey, my mum was having a clear-out today and decided to throw away her old society books (she ain't in now...yippee).. i was helping and came across an old 'paradise lost - paradise regained' book that we used to study as a family when i was just a nipper.. it's in remarkably good condition considering five kids used to man-handle it about 30 years ago.

  it wasn't a children's book really, but the simple language used, to appeal to all sorts of laymen, made it suitable for that purpose.. scanning through i came across loads of pictures that really brought memories flooding back, i'll post some more when i get the time.. somebody recently posted a thread about the jw belief that dinosaurs were about at the same time as humans.

  well the picture on the inside cover shows a dinosaur (top left) wandering about the desert and people too.

  OK I followed the link, duh. I thought the story was aimed at JWs, actually it is aimed at any religion. The author also has some variations for specific religions. Here is the dub one:

  Jehovah's Witnesses - Everybody in town should kiss Hank's ass, but only 144 are going to get a million dollars after Hank burns the town down, which we think will be Real Soon Now. Then he'll kick the shit out of anyone who didn't kiss his ass, and send the rest to a nicer, newer town. Here, have a pamphlet; it describes what we think we mean. We'll be back tomorrow to tell you why everyone else is kissing Hank's ass wrong.
